The Los Angeles Lakers are set to make an unexpected adjustment to accommodate their newly signed two-way center/power forward, Harry Giles, who had a brief stint with the Brooklyn Nets earlier this year, into one of their two-way roster spots.
Instead of parting ways with rookie two-way center Colin Castleton, who recently suffered a fractured right wrist, sources close to the situation have informed ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that the Lakers have decided to release a different player with a two-way contract.
The Lakers will be waiving Dylan Windler, a more experienced player on a two-way deal, to make room for Giles. Windler, like Giles, has been in the league for four seasons and has faced injury challenges. During his time with the Lakers, Windler appeared in just eight games, averaging 1.5 points on 44.% shooting from the field and 50% shooting from beyond the arc, along with 0.8 assists.
According to McMenamin, Giles will officially join the Lakers on Monday.
In the short term, given injuries to Christian Wood, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Castleton, there’s a possibility that Giles may see some playing time, albeit limited, for the Lakers as they push for a playoff spot. Despite recent improvements, with two consecutive wins and seven victories in their last ten games, the Lakers currently hold the tenth seed in the Western Conference with a record of 33-28.
Their defense has been significantly impacted by long-term injuries to Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and Cam Reddish, the latter of whom recently returned after a monthlong absence.
