Bruno Guimaraes has recommended former teammate Raphael Veiga to Newcastle United, claiming he ‘would fit in’ well in English football.
In 2018, our midfield maestro played alongside Veiga at Athletico-PR. Since then, the attacking midfielder has starred for Palmeiras, scoring 84 goals and providing 34 assists in 260 games.
When asked by ESPN Brasil to pick a player from his home country who could make the move up to the Premier League, he responded as follows:
“He’s one of the names that might suit in here. He takes corners well, shoots from a distance, and has a solid set piece. We spent time together at Athletico-PR in 2018.
“I think he could have a very good future if he comes to Europe.”
Newcastle United are clearly scouting the South American market, with a number of Brazilian and Argentine youth players linked with moves to St James’ Park in the last 18 months.
However, it appears that we will focus on future players who can make the step up, rather than a 28-year-old Veiga who has yet to play in Europe.
