The FA declared in 2018 that replays would be eliminated beginning with the fifth round to alleviate fixture congestion. Premier League managers like Jurgen Klopp have been vocal about the need to remove replays completely.
In the past, if all ties, including the final, were drawn, they were replayed. The last rematch at Wembley Stadium was the 1993 final, when Arsenal defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 after extra time in front of 63,000 supporters.
A win against Blackburn, who are 16th in the Championship, would bring Eddie Howe one step closer to breaking Newcastle’s domestic title curse. The Magpies last won the FA Cup in 1955, with goals from Jackie Milburn, Bobby Mitchell, and George Hannah in a 3-1 victory over Manchester City.
