Paul Merson and Harry Redknapp agree to shock Newcastle United prediction v Arsenal

Pundits have made their predictions before of Arsenal’s challenging match against Newcastle United this weekend.

Arsenal return to action on Saturday evening, and they face a tough test after their recent success. The Gunners have recently found their scoring touch, and with the exception of a dismal Champions League match against Porto earlier this week, they have looked untouchable.

However, their newfound form will be tested this weekend when they face European hopefuls Newcastle United, with the Gunners needing to establish themselves against tough opposition once more if they are to remain in the championship fight. We pundits have been making predictions for Saturday’s promising matchup.

“Arsenal suffered a big blow last night (Wednesday),” Paul Merson told SportsKeeda. “The last time they won a European trophy was 30 years ago. It merely demonstrates how difficult European contests are – you need experience. They possessed a lot of the ball away from home, but they weren’t sure what to do with it. I’m not sure why they changed the away-goals rule, but you’re going to see games like this because teams will go into a shell during away matches.

“I don’t think Arsenal’s European failure will influence them this weekend. Newcastle have been inconsistent recently, but they have remained unbeaten in their last five games. They score goals, but they also concede far too many goals. They cannot go to Arsenal this weekend and defend like that; they will be decimated.

“Newcastle’s defence is suffering right now, but they don’t have anything to play for. I enjoy seeing them play because they open up games, but they don’t want to do so against Arsenal because it might be messy. Bukayo Saka could have a field day in this game, and I anticipate Arsenal to win easily.”

Merson backed Arsenal to win 3-1, while former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp agreed with his BetVictor predictions, saying: “Arsenal have been in unbelievable domestic form, scoring so many goals.” They battled away to Porto throughout the week, but I believe they will be driven to answer here.

“Newcastle have been so up and down, and they appear to be struggling at the back, which is unusual for them. I can see Arsenal capitalising on this and adding to their current scoring spree. 3 – 1.”
