Newcastle United man confirms he is back on the pitch after suffering injury

Harrison Ashby, a Newcastle United defender on loan at Swansea City, is getting closer to returning from injury after missing over a month.

The 22-year-old missed 10 games in late November and early January due to a hamstring injury, prompting him to return to Tyneside for treatment.

Ashby returned to action against Southampton, Leicester City, and AFC Bournemouth last month before suffering another muscular injury. He last appeared on January 30, but has promised a return.

On Instagram, the right-back shared a snapshot of himself sprinting with the comment “sun is shining and back on the pitch”. Magpies duo Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth liked the post.

Newcastle bought Ashby from West Ham United in January 2022, and he was expected to be a long-term successor for Trippier, but things may have changed following Tino Livramento’s £32 million arrival last summer. Emil Krafth also secured a contract extension through 2025 last week.

Ashby has yet to make a competitive appearance for United, however he did play in preseason. He scored in a 2-1 win over Rangers before playing in the Premier League Summer Series against Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion. His future will be reevaluated when he returns from Wales this summer.
