Transfer latest: AC Milan set to win race for 22-year-old striker

AC Milan has a significant lead over Bayern Munich and Premier League teams in their pursuit of Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee this summer, according to reports.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan), the Dutch striker remains one of Milan’s top objectives for the summer transfer window as they look for a new striker, and they may have an easier time enticing him to join than other clubs.

This is because Zirkzee prefers to stay in Italy this summer rather than make what is viewed as a dangerous move to the Premier League at the age of 22.

Bayern Munich is in the running and has some financial benefits due to their arrangement to transfer him to Bologna in the first place, such as the €40 million buy-back clause, but with Harry Kane at the club, there is less opportunity for minutes with the Bavarian side than with Milan.

Olivier Giroud is out of contract this summer, as is Luke Jovic, though his future is less certain. While both could sign new contracts before the season ends, there is a hole to fill, and Zirkzee has been scoring plenty of goals for the Rossoblu.
