Sunderland’s managerial target wants Championship move

Sunderland’s managerial target Will Still has stated that he is eager to work in the Championship for an ambitious club that is willing to do things the right way.

In December, the Black Cats held talks with Still but balked at the money they would have had to pay Reims to get him.

The 31-year-old has been in charge of Reims since 2022 and is regarded as a promising young managerial potential in European football.

Still is considered to be the leader to become Sunderland’s manager in the summer, as the club ramps up efforts to find a permanent replacement for Michael Beale, who was fired on Monday.

The young coach wants to manage in the Premier League, but he is willing to work in the Championship for an ambitious club.

He admitted that he is peculiar and would only work at the second tier of English football if he found the right setting for his job.

“I’d work for a championship team without hesitation,” he told The Athletic.

“What I’ve come to appreciate is the importance of people.

“And how essential choosing the appropriate place for my career.

“And individuals who understand how I work, because I am a little unusual. I can be strange at times.

“If something is s**t, I’d like someone to tell me.

“But if there’s a Championship club that’s ambitious, that wants to work in the right way and be open and honest about things, and really try and push to get somewhere, then I would love to do that.”

It remains to be seen whether Still is willing to accept an offer from Sunderland if they pursue him again at the end of the season.
