Breaking news: Sunderland finally accept 23-year-old will leave club

Football Insider reports that Sunderland is preparing for the departure of winger Jack Clarke during the upcoming summer transfer window. Clarke, formerly of Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur, has attracted significant interest over the past eighteen months. Since his loan move to Sunderland was made permanent, Clarke has excelled, notching 27 goals and 22 assists in 105 appearances for the club.

Despite renewed interest during the winter transfer window, Clarke remained at Sunderland as no club was willing to meet the asking price. However, with Sunderland’s playoff hopes fading, there are now new speculations about the 23-year-old’s future.

Football Insider indicates that Sunderland has accepted the likelihood of Clarke leaving in the summer. The club could become more susceptible to offers if they remain in the Championship, with West Ham, Burnley, and Brentford expressing interest.

Clarke’s contract with Sunderland runs until the summer of 2026, suggesting that any potential transfer would not come at a low cost.

Tough to hold onto Clarke?

Clarke continues to shine in his second season as a key player in the Championship, maintaining an almost indispensable presence on the left flank. With 15 goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions for Sunderland, he has reaffirmed his prowess at this level, building upon his performance from the previous season.

Having demonstrated his capabilities consistently, Clarke seems destined for a move to a higher league. If Sunderland cannot provide football at a superior level at the Stadium of Light, it appears unlikely that he will remain beyond the summer transfer window.

As potential suitors may be more financially equipped to secure his services in the summer, Clarke could find himself back in the Premier League later this year. However, until then, his focus remains on aiding Sunderland’s ascent from their current 10th position in the Championship standings.
