Los Angeles Lakes basketball will return this week, and the battle for a top-six berth will begin soon. The Lakers have been playing their best basketball in recent weeks, and they will look to carry that momentum into the second half of the season.
Things are looking good for the purple and gold, but this may not be true for their head coach, Darvin Ham. According to BetOnline, Ham is tied for second place with the least odds of the next NBA coach being fired.
Ham is tied with Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford at +250 odds. Chauncey Billups, the Portland Trail Blazers’ head coach and a former NBA champion, tops the race with +200 odds.
Although the Lakers have recently found their stride (winning their past three games in a row and six of their last seven), we hope this trend continues, Ham’s job security could be jeopardized. Los Angeles has been in a rut for a month and a half. Although the players played a role, Ham bears the majority of the blame. His rotations, poor coaching, and lineup decisions had a significant negative impact on the Lakers.
Hopefully, it is all behind them, but they could have been in a better position without Ham. Lakers executives Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka have backed Ham, but another flaw this season might put them over the brink.
It is not a definite thing. However, if Ham fails to succeed with a healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis, this season could be the final nail in the coffin.
Lakers fans aren’t Ham believers, but winning may solve everything.
