Philadelphia Eagles Player Called ‘Most Overrated Player in Football!’

In 2022, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts finished second in the award race and suffered a sad loss in the Super Bowl, capping off an MVP-worthy season.

To reach these heights in only his third season was as astounding as it gets, so naturally, exceptions were rampant heading into 2023. Hurts and the Eagles began the season as if the prospect of defending their NFC championship hadn’t troubled them, slipping to a 10-1 record until an ugly playoff defeat confirmed the inevitable.

Hurts’ numbers were spectacular once again, but they only translated into fantasy football wins. While his flaws in the closing stretch of the season were difficult to overlook, he doesn’t deserve all of the responsibility for what was clearly a team-wide collapse.

Just don’t tell Chris Simms, an NFL analyst and former quarterback.

Often subjected to criticism and backlash for his sometimes controversial opinions, Chris Simms sparked another debate by labeling Jalen Hurts as “the most overrated player in football,” a statement that might not sit well with Eagles fans.

“Personally, I have a lot of respect for Jalen Hurts, but I also believe he’s highly overrated,” Simms remarked. “I understand that my opinion may not be popular, and I’m prepared for the backlash.”

Critics of Hurts often cite his inflated rushing touchdown statistics as justification for the overrated tag. Last season, Hurts notably benefited from the controversial “Tush Push,” which saw him score a career-high 15 rushing touchdowns. However, many of these touchdowns were scored in congested goal-line situations, lacking the flair or excitement typically associated with such plays.

Simms believes it goes beyond that, and he suggests who could be a better quarterback for the Eagles than Hurts.

“He plays quarterback for a team that’s an all-star team, they have the best O-line in football, it’s not even close,” he said. “I simply think if you put another quarterback in Philly, like Kyler Murray, you’d like, ‘Damn, Kyler’s terrific. “Is he the MVP of football?”

Murray defeated Philly and Hurts in a spectacular Week 17 upset at Lincoln Financial Field, but predicting he’ll be able to overcome the Eagles’ defensive struggles is a touch crazy.

Hurts deserves criticism after a forgettable season, but Simms’ claim that he is the “most overrated” player is absurd.

Simms said it best himself: “That’s me, and I know I’m wrong.”
