Rumors of LeBron James joining the Golden State Warriors continue to circulate, following a report earlier in February that the Northern California team inquired about a potential trade before the NBA trade deadline.
It appears ludicrous on the surface. King James is making his way from the Los Angeles Lakers to the in-state rival Warriors. Why would he jeopardize his legacy by joining forces with fellow four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry in San Francisco?
Although still improbable, there’s increasing chatter about LeBron James’ plans for the offseason, which are intriguing in the broader context. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, via Bleacher Report, recently mentioned the possibility of the Lakers and Warriors “revisiting” a trade involving James this summer. While Windhorst remains somewhat doubtful, his insight into LeBron James matters is usually reliable.
“However,” Windhorst added regarding James potentially joining the Warriors, “LeBron loves living in Los Angeles. His family is in Los Angeles. His post-retirement plans are in Los Angeles.” “I’d be foolish to dismiss anything regarding LeBron,” Windhorst continued, “but I don’t believe it’s a serious consideration. If anything, it might be a negotiating tactic as he aims for one final multiyear contract.”
James, 39, has stated multiple times that he would love to pair up with the aforementioned Curry before retiring.
“Steph Curry is definitely the player I want to play alongside in today’s game. (He is) lethal, guy. When he gets out of his automobile, you should be on guard from the moment he arrives at the arena. As soon as he gets out of his car, you best watch his a**. You might want to watch him when he gets out of bed. “Swear to God.”
When Golden State phoned the Lakers about James before of the NBA trade deadline, the future Hall of Famer expressed no interest in joining the Warriors. However, that was most likely motivated by a desire not to shift teams in the middle of the season.
James continues to excel for an otherwise unimpressive 30-26 Lakers squad. He averages 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists while shooting 52% from the field.
The Warriors now have a record of 27-26 for the season.
