Newcastle United co-owner posts five-word ‘hilarious’ message as key man ruled for 3 months

Newcastle United may be without a fully fit striker for Saturday’s Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth.
Newcastle United could be without a recognised striker for Saturday’s Premier League match at home to AFC Bournemouth.

Callum Wilson faces up to 12 weeks on the sidelines after suffering a shocking pectoral tendon injury in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

It was initially anticipated that the 31-year-old’s condition could be managed, but as reported by Mail Online on Thursday, additional examination indicated that surgery is required. The best-case scenario is that the striker returns in April.

It is a major blow for the Magpies’ No.9 on a personal level, as his prospects of reaching England’s Euro 2024 squad are in jeopardy. His absence also leaves Newcastle with a void in the attacking ranks.

Eddie Howe’s team are currently without a fully fit senior striker. Alexander Isak has missed the last two games with a groin issue that has lasted throughout the season. And, while he could return to action on Saturday, he is unlikely to start.

Despite United’s bad predicament due to injuries, Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben has attempted to lighten the mood.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), Reuben wished fellow co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi a happy birthday before cheekily asking, “Can you play up front?”

Most Newcastle fans saw the funny side, though some were disappointed that the club chose not to enhance the squad during the January transfer window in order to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Anthony Gordon is set to lead the line until Isak returns to full fitness.
