Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback, became the youngest player in NFL history to win two MVP awards. He won one unanimously for only the second time in history, and then almost did it again. But he still does not have his Super Bowl ring. And that’s what’s on his mind.
“Just to be among the greatest of all time, to do stuff like this is incredible,” he said of obtaining the accolade, according to the team’s website. “I never expected to be a two-time MVP. “If anything, I expected to be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback by now.”
Jackson made its first appearance in the conference finals in 2023. The Ravens, however, fell short against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes added a significant component to his legacy last night with his third ring. Jackson remains sure that his time will come. And he doesn’t care anyone says anything about it.
“The sky is the limit.” I feel like I still have work to improve on and things to prove to the skeptics.
He said. “But I need the skeptics to keep coming and pouring gasoline to the fire so that I can continue to be Lamar Jackson…I need them. I just need them. Bad”.
Jackson is fairly accustomed with naysayers. When he finished school, several teams requested him to work out at positions other than quarterback. They and many observers questioned if he could maintain his game in the NFL without switching positions.
For the most part, he disproved such fears long ago. However, he understands that a Super Bowl title is the only way for others to validate his game. He aims to utilize his naysayers as fuel to propel him to the pinnacle of his field.
The Ravens have won a few Super Bowls. They last won it all in 2012, six years before Jackson entered the picture. Baltimore has only won in the playoffs since drafting Jackson in 2018, with the second triumph coming in 2023.
Since his first title, however, head coach John Harbaugh and his team have struggled to find postseason success. He has only three wins since the 2012 Super Bowl, which is the same as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ total.
However, the Steelers face a much tougher task at quarterback. They don’t even know who their starter is or whether he’s on the roster. They benched Kenny Pickett near the close of the season in favor of Mason Rudolph, who was doing better.
How much merit do Jackson’s critics possess? He isn’t the best pure passer the game has ever seen, but he could be the most dynamic. He’ll never be free of skeptics until he holds the Lombardi Trophy, which his legs have earned him.
