Ravens told to retain 26-year-old defensive star

The Baltimore Ravens boasted the top defense in the NFL this year, allowing a mere 16.5 points per game and dominating offenses with a league-leading 60 sacks. One of the key contributors to their success, particularly under the guidance of Mike Macdonald, was the outstanding performance of defensive tackle Justin Madubuike.

In a pivotal season as his contract approached its end, Madubuike showcased his prowess, emerging as one of the league’s premier defensive tackles.

He led the Ravens in various defensive categories, including tackles for loss (12), quarterback hits (33), and sacks (13), all of which marked career highs. As Madubuike gears up for free agency, it’s evident that he’s poised to capitalize on his exceptional season.

The Ravens face the crucial task of deciding whether to franchise tag him or negotiate a long-term contract, but securing the services of this star defensive tackle remains their top priority this offseason, according to CBS Sports.

“Set to cash in this spring in free agency, the Ravens have to make sure Madubuike doesn’t get to that point,” a report from CBS Sports states. “Madubuike has been a game-changer on the interior of the defensive line, accumulating 65 pressures, 13 sacks, and 33 quarterback hits at a pressure rate of 13.4%. Madubuike is only 26 years old, thus his finest years are ahead of him. He is the main priority for Baltimore’s top-ranked scoring defense.

The Ravens’ defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald, has left for the Seattle Seahawks, defensive line coach Anthony Weaver has joined the Miami Dolphins, and defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson has been hired by the Tennessee Titans. Zach Orr, the Ravens’ new defensive coordinator, was promoted from linebackers coach, so there are a lot of moving factors.

However, Madubuike cannot be transported. Baltimore must do all within its power to keep him. This could spell the end of Patrick Queen’s career as a Raven, as he is also scheduled to become free agency. Madubuike was a standout for the Ravens this season, and following his contributions, Baltimore must open the pocketbook and close a deal. Don’t let him walk out the door, whether it’s with a franchise tag or a long-term contract.
