Alan Shearer believes Nottingham Forest were fairly unlucky not to be granted a penalty against Newcastle last night.
The pundit was speaking on Match of the Day.
So, what has Shearer said about Forest and the pivotal event that appeared to determine the contest? Let’s look more closely.
What Alan Shearer said about key Nottingham Forest decision
Shearer will not be bothered, of course, but he has at least supported Forest after Newcastle plundered them.
The game relied on the match officials’ decision not to award Taiwo Awoniyi a penalty in the second half.
After passing Martin Dubravka, the Newcastle goalkeeper appeared to raise his arm to foul the Forest striker, but nothing was given.
Anthony Taylor was extremely bad during the contest, so it’s no surprise he didn’t point to the spot.
Shearer understands why Forest were upset, but believes Newcastle got away with it.
He told Match of the Day: “If it was the other way around, I’d be screaming for a penalty.”
“I understand why Nottingham Forest fans will feel robbed. Because I do think that’s a penalty.”
Shearer is right but it doesn’t help Forest
In our opinion, the EFL may not be as dreadful as it appears! Seriously, what is the purpose of the Premier League anymore?
With all of the technology in place, how did no one on the pitch at City Ground or in Stockley Park notice that this was a clear foul?
Frankly, it’s borderline pathetic, and dare we assume that if the same infraction had been committed on Callum Wilson on the other end, a penalty would have been awarded!
It’s great of Shearer to take off his black and white colored glasses for a moment and fight Forest’s corner, but it doesn’t help the Reds win three points that they definitely deserved.
It’s becoming unwatchable in the Premier League, and Forest must be expecting roughly six judgments in their favor in the next weeks!
