Newcastle United ‘fantastic’ star signs new deal

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has signed a new contract with Adidas.
Sven Botman has become the latest Newcastle United player to sign a contract with sportswear company Adidas.

The 24-year-old defender moved from Nike to Adidas boots at the start of the 2023-24 season, and he is now an official Adidas athlete. Botman’s agency, Muy Manero, revealed the signing on Instagram by releasing a video of Botman at Adidas Amsterdam with the caption: “Adidas has a new family member ///.”

Adidas’ official X account also posted: “De de de de de de, de de de de de de, Sven Botman.” A reference to the Dutchman’s chant.

Botman is one of several Newcastle players that have signed contracts with Adidas. Joelinton, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, and Lewis Miley recently appeared in a promotional campaign for the German sportswear company’s new Predator 24 footwear.

Bruno Guimaraes, a Magpies midfielder, is also an Adidas athlete, having worn a 90s Newcastle Adidas shirt at the Predator 24’s original introduction last month.

Adidas’ contracts with Newcastle players came ahead of the club’s future clothing deal. Newcastle’s current arrangement with kit maker Castore will expire after the 2023-24 season, with Adidas returning for the first time since 2010.

The Magpies will join Manchester United, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Juventus in obtaining Adidas’ ‘elite’ package, which includes bespoke kit designs, sportswear, authentic shirts, and long-sleeve kits.

Adidas will return next season with an initial five-year contract regarded as the ‘largest’ in the club’s history. It is said to be valued roughly £40 million per season.
