Vincent Kompany explains why two Burnley players have left club

Vincent Kompany admits Burnley had to strike the perfect balance during the January transfer window between allowing players to depart and not leaving his side devoid of options.

It comes after Connor Roberts and Anass Zaroury left Turf Moor on deadline day to join Leeds United and Hull City, both on loan.

Despite playing a key role in last season’s Championship title win, the duo struggled to find regular minutes in the top flight this season.

As a result, they both indicated a desire to go out and gain game experience.

Zaroury earned his Hull debut last weekend in a 1-0 victory over Millwall, but Roberts will have to wait until Leeds face Rotherham United at home next Saturday.

Deadline day proved out to be a busy one for the Clarets, with Maxime Esteve and Lorenz Assignon joining David Fofana in making the move to East Lancashire during the January window.

When asked about Burnley’s end of the window, Kompany responded, “The three in?” You seen what they did against Fulham.

“When it comes to outgoings, balance is key. There are a lot of players who want and need game time, and it’s always about finding the balance to make sure you don’t leave yourself short, but we also have a duty of care, so if a player needs to play, we must give them the opportunity.

“We also need players that are 100 per cent focused on the task at hand and that’s a little bit what we did.”
