Newcastle now told they can sign “incredible” attacker for £150m

Newcastle has been told how much it will cost to recruit Rafael Leao from AC Milan this summer.

Foot Mercato of France provided the information.

So, what’s the latest on Newcastle’s Rafael Leao? Let us have a look.

Newcastle told Rafael Leao price

According to Telefoot, Newcastle want to sign the Portuguese international this summer.

Foot Mercato has discovered that Leao has a very unique release clause.

According to the French news site, the AC Milan No.10’s contract at the San Siro includes a €175 million (£150 million) release clause that will take effect this summer.

However, it will not be active for the entire transfer window.

Foot Mercato explains how Newcastle, and any other interested parties, have a window from July 5th to July 15th to trigger Leao’s release clause.

It can be paid in installments; interestingly, this will be the case every summer during the attacker’s contract with AC Milan, which runs until June 2028.

Leao, previously dubbed “incredible” by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has continued to impress this season, scoring six goals and assisting eight times in 27 games across all competitions.

It follows the 24-year-old’s remarkable 16 goals and 15 assists in 48 games last season.

Newcastle could spend this money more wisely

As tempting as it is to utilize Leao’s release clause this summer, Eddie Howe has other responsibilities.

Newcastle need to strengthen in the back – a stronger deputy to Nick Pope, for example – and the overall quality of the squad depth can be improved beyond Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett.

Of course, Newcastle might gain a generational talent by paying £150 million on Leao, but we believe the money would be much better spent boosting the squad as a whole.
