The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested in Texas on at least his third allegation of driving while drunk, jail records show.
Mahomes Sr., 53, was arrested Saturday night and bond was set at $10,000. He was freed on Sunday, according to jail records in Smith County, Texas.
The arrest came just a little more than a week before his son leads the Chiefs against San Francisco in Las Vegas, where Kansas City hopes to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
At Super Bowl media night on Monday, the younger Mahomes will certainly be asked if his father’s arrest will be a distraction. That may be a plot for next weekend.
Mahomes Sr. was arrested in 2019 on the same felony and sentenced to 40 days in jail, according to Smith County records.
