Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron is poised to leave St James’ Park this summer.
Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron’s days at St James’ Park are finished as he will ‘definitely move on’ ahead of next season, according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has told GIVEMESPORT that head coach Eddie Howe will be running the rule over his entire squad as he looks for ways to increase revenue.
The Magpies signed Manchester City starlet Alfie Harrison on deadline day for up to £3.5 million, but they were unable to spend the money due to concerns about exceeding Premier League profit and sustainability regulations.
Concerns prompted chief executive Darren Eales to reveal that some of Newcastle’s biggest names may have to move on to pastures new in the coming months, leading in admirers circling ahead of the transfer window reopening this summer.
Almiron rejected Saudi advances ahead of deadline
Respected journalist Ben Jacobs recently informed GIVEMESPORT that Miguel Almiron declined an offer to join Al-Shabab towards the end of the winter transfer window. The Saudi Pro League team refrained from making a formal offer when it became evident that they couldn’t sway his decision, despite offering a lucrative contract.
According to the reporter, negotiations hit a major obstacle after Al-Shabab had already verbally agreed with Almiron. The Paraguayan player, who became Newcastle’s most expensive signing five years ago, was part of discussions between the clubs.
Despite having two-and-a-half years left on his £60,000-per-week contract and consistently performing well for Newcastle, Al-Shabab saw an opportunity amid concerns raised by Eales regarding Premier League financial rules.
Newcastle set a £30 million price tag on Almiron when it became clear Al-Shabab was interested, showing they were not willing to sell him cheaply, even though he was considered available.
Al-Shabab’s initial offer of £17 million was rejected, prompting Newcastle to name their price. Talks between the clubs lasted seven days before Almiron’s refusal to move to Saudi Arabia forced Al-Shabab to abandon their pursuit, leaving them little time to find an alternative target.
