Chaka Traore finalized a loan transfer to Palermo on the final day of the transfer window, sharing his reasons for the move and revealing Stefano Pioli’s advice prior to his departure.
Despite his strong performances in early 2024, notably scoring against Cagliari in the Coppa Italia and Empoli in the league, speculation swirled about Traore’s potential loan move to secure more playing time.
Palermo secured his signature, with reports from Di Marzio indicating it wasn’t just a standard loan but one with an option to buy for €10m plus a 15% resale clause favoring Milan.
No mention of a buy-back clause was made in the report or since, suggesting Milan took a risk with the deal.
At a press conference today, Traore introduced himself to Palermo, with his remarks conveyed by Radio Rossonera.
Why Palermo?
“When I heard the term Palermo, I was overjoyed and thrilled to be able to visit such an amazing destination. I was eager to join this club and help them reach their season goals.”
What were your initial thoughts after Friday’s 3-0 win?
“As soon as I arrived at the stadium, I was ecstatic to hear the crowd and see how much they care about this shirt. And I am still excited.”
What did Pioli tell you?
“I can only appreciate him for what he has done for me. He assisted me in achieving some of my personal ambitions. When he heard I was coming to Palermo, he advised me to give my all. He complimented me, telling me to continue as I was doing at Milan, giving everything for this shirt.”
Have you set any targets?
“I want to help Palermo achieve a major goal, like as promotion to Serie A. Personal goals? It’s true that I’m a forward and need to score goals, but the most important thing is promotion; this squad and city deserve it.”
Could you please tell us more about the transfer formula?
“I live in the now; let’s see what comes of it. I’m here to help. Then I don’t care what happens. “I just want to work on the pitch and help the team.”
What have you learned from your time in Milan?
“I learned about the world of football. I’ve also made significant personal growth. In addition to football, Milan teaches you how to be a man and a good person in other aspects. I worked not just on the field, but also with others. They received me like a son, and I will never cease thanking Milan for what they offered me.”
What is your preferred role?
“I prefer to play on the left, but regardless of where I am placed, I will always give my all.” I also played to the right and center.”
Did becoming a member of the City Football Group influence your decision?
“It is the most significant football group in the world. When I learned about Palermo, I was pleased by the attention that such a prominent organization had saved for me.”
What have Leao and Giroud taught you?
“In football and in life, you never stop learning. I believe I am good at some things, but I still need to study a lot to reach the top. You can only learn from great players, and always with respect. Perhaps even swiping some of the items you see on the pitch will help a lot.
