Newcastle United midfielder issues heartfelt farewell message as transfer fate sealed

Newcastle United transfers: Joe White has issued a farewell message following his return from Crewe Alexandra.

Newcastle United youngster Joe White has thanked Crewe Alexandra following his loan spell at the club.

White played the first part of the season on loan at the League Two club, but returned to Tyneside with Eddie Howe’s team in desperate need of midfield reinforcements. After joining the Railwaymen in September, the 21-year-old appeared in 25 games, scoring three goals and assisting three times.

While White drew plenty of Football League loan interest, and Crewe were eager to extend his loan, Newcastle have decided to keep him in the first team. The Magpies have only three fit midfielders available: Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, and 17-year-old Lewis Miley.

White was named to the bench for Newcastle’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

Following the announcement of his stay in Newcastle, White expressed gratitude to Crewe via Instagram.

“Thank you for everything @crewealexofficial ❤️The last few months mean more than you will ever know,” White posted.

Before deadline day, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe told The Gazette that Joe will be with the club for the rest of the season. We’re short on midfielders, so this is an excellent opportunity for him to step up and demonstrate his abilities.

“He’s certainly improved, the loan spell has been a really crucial period for him and this could be a great opportunity.”

The club website lists White as a member of Newcastle’s first team, and he has been assigned the number 40 jersey. He’ll be hoping to make his competitive debut for the club against Luton Town on Saturday (3pm kickoff).
