Miami Heat Could Complete Wild Blockbuster Trade Before Deadline

Nick Wright has proposed a trade proposal to bring LeBron James back to the Miami Heat.

The NBA trade deadline is less than a week away, and deal fever has gripped the league. NBA expert Nick Wright speculated on ‘First Things First’ on prospective trades for LeBron James, including one in which LeBron returns to the Miami Heat, where he won two championships.

Trade Details

Lakers Receive: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson

Heat Receive: LeBron James

“You get Tyler Herro under contract and Duncan Robinson to make it work.”

Wright also proposed other trades that would send LeBron to New York and Philadelphia. He suggested the Knicks trade Julius Randle and Evan Fournier for two first-round choices. In addition, he suggested that the 76ers acquire LeBron by sending Tobias Harris, Furkan Korkmaz, and one first-round selection.

All of these offers are quite awful, but the Heat one is perhaps the most unfair. The Portland Trail Blazers refused to trade Tyler Herro for Damian Lillard, then why would the Lakers accept it for LeBron James, the greatest player of his generation? Duncan Robinson’s contract has been regarded as one of the worst in the league for years, and even a strong shooting season does not change that.

Teams would take a selection merely to get Robinson’s contract, and we are meant to trust an offer in which LeBron swaps teams for this? It’s absolutely unfathomable.

Acquiring LeBron James would pose a significant challenge for the Miami Heat, considering their current assets. Any potential deal would likely involve players like Herro and Robinson for financial reasons, but the Lakers might aim for a rising star like Nikola Jovic to balance their roster around Anthony Davis. However, even such a package wouldn’t suffice for a player of LeBron’s caliber.

The Lakers might also seek draft picks from the Heat, though negotiations could reduce this demand to just one unprotected pick due to LeBron’s age. This raises the question of whether it’s prudent for the Heat to strip their roster of assets for just half a season with LeBron, especially considering his impending free agency and the possibility of him choosing a team based on personal factors like his son’s NBA career.

The narrative is intriguing, with the Heat reaching two NBA Finals since LeBron’s departure, losing on both occasions, including to LeBron himself in 2020. Similar to his return to the Cavaliers, a reunion with the Heat could position LeBron as the missing piece for a team that has been competitive but lacks the strength to clinch the championship.

However, in reality, the Lakers would likely demand a steep price for LeBron, given his age and status, which the Heat might not be willing to meet. Additionally, considering LeBron’s settled family life in Los Angeles, a mid-season move away from the city seems improbable, as he has never been traded in his career.
