We are thrilled to welcome Romaine Mundle to Sunderland AFC.
The 20-year-old winger has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Stadium of Light, after joining from Belgian Pro League side Standard Liège for an unknown price.
Mundle, who was born in London, began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent 15 years before moving to Belgium in July 2023.
His final season in North London was productive, as he scored seven goals and assisted five more in 24 Premier League 2 games for Spurs’ youth squad.
The 20-year-old’s performances were recognized at Hotspur Way, and previous Head Coach Antonio Conte rewarded him by promoting him to the first-team squad in early March.
He was then named on the bench five times in the Premier League, after his first appearance in the North Londoners’ main matchday squad for an Emirates FA Cup fixture in January.
Mundle is the Club’s second signing of the January transfer window, and we hope he will be available for selection when the Lads meet Middlesbrough on Sunday at the Riverside Stadium.
Sunderland AFC Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman stated, “Talented players like Romaine are highly sought after, as we saw firsthand this summer when he left Tottenham Hotspur.”
We didn’t expect him to be available on a permanent basis, but when we saw an opening, we acted fast and decisively to make it happen – our methods of operation and structure are a genuine asset in these situations.
This is a significant step forward in Romaine’s career after a stint abroad, and we look forward to assisting him as he settles into his new home in Sunderland. He has a promising future as a member of an exciting squad, and we look forward to working with him.
