Burnley are now in talks to sign ‘experienced’ defender

Burnley are in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Thomas Meunier on loan for the rest of the season.

The Clarets are looking to add defensive reinforcements during the transfer window and have targeted the former PSG full-back.

The 32-year-old has fallen out of favour at Signal Iduna Park, making only seven appearances in the Bundesliga this season.

Vincent Kompany’s team is searching for more depth on their sides as they continue negotiations with Leeds about Conor Roberts’ future.

The Wales international is willing to make the transition ahead of the European Championship qualification playoffs.

Leeds have been looking into a variety of domestic and international options after loaning out right back Luke Ayling to Middlesbrough and terminating Djed Spence’s season-long loan with Tottenham.

Roberts, 28, has made 88 appearances for the Clarets since moving from Swansea in 2021.

However, he has struggled for playing time this season, starting only eight of Burnley’s 22 Premier League games, with Vitinho frequently favored by Vincent Kompany.
