Despite the fact we are still in the January transfer window and only just in the second half of the 2023-24 season, rumours continue to swirl about AC Milan’s plans for the summer.
According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), an exciting finale to the season and winning the Europa League could be enough to maintain Stefano Pioli as head coach, but a departure is more likely.
Antonio Conte’s replacement prospects are divided, with even Milan management split on the concept of employing someone with an exceptional CV but a problematic temperament and a high pay.
As we have reported, Thiago Motta remains in pole position to take over Pioli beginning next year. The Italian-Brazilian coach is well-known for his versatile style of play and ability to nurture young players.
Bringing him to the Rossoneri might also help with the negotiations for Joshua Zirkzee, Milan’s top target to improve the assault in the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, if Milan wanted to focus primarily on Motta (and thus Zirkzee), they would need to act quickly. Many clubs, including Barcelona, have previously recognised the coach and striker’s abilities.
