According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Newcastle have approached Aston Villa about a potential transfer for midfielder Jacob Ramsey.
He claims that the England U21 international is attracting late interest from ourselves, Spurs, and Bayern Munich, but a move to Tyneside would only be possible if we secured a’significant sale’ in the last few days of the window.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a key player under Unai Emery, but it appears Villa are among several clubs considering their FFP options, with striker Jhon Duran another who could be sold instead due to interest from Chelsea.
Villa would prefer to keep Ramsey, but Ornstein thinks that offers exceeding £50 million will be considered.
Ramsey has appeared ten times in the Premier League this season, scoring one. He can play in midfield or out wide and scored six goals and eight assists across all competitions last season.
He’s a really good player, the type of young English talent Eddie Howe would value highly. But is he the defensive midfielder or the powerful No. 8 that we need in this window? His playing style is quite similar to Joe Willock’s, and the former Arsenal player is on the verge of making a comeback.
Willock will need time to recover from an injury-plagued season, but Ramsey has only started four league games owing to fitness difficulties.
