The promotion hopefuls could land a future star.
Ipswich Town have had a busy transfer window, hoping to secure their place in the Premier League just one season after being promoted from the Championship. Kieran McKenna has signed two new players: Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jeremy Sarmiento and Blackburn Rovers’ Lewis Travis. However, the Tractor Boys’ focus has shifted to the summer transfer window and a potential star.
Ipswich transfer news
As things stand, Ipswich lead the automatic promotion race by one point after winning only one of their last seven Championship games, against Sunderland. McKenna will hope that his additions will be enough to stave off the threat of Southampton and Leeds United, as they are more vulnerable to losing their promotion berth than ever.
Speaking on Sarmiento’s arrival, who just scored his first goal for the club in a late 1-1 draw against Leicester City, McKenna told Suffolk News: “We’re very happy to have him. He’s a player we believe we know rather well. We’ve been watching him for a long time, both for Brighton last year and for West Brom this year, and we’ve spoken with him for quite some time.”
Since signing Travis alongside the Brighton player, the Tractor Boys have moved their emphasis to the summer.
According to The Daily Record, Ipswich have been tracking Lewis O’Donnell since his loan move from Dundee United to Kelty Hearts.
Any move for the 18-year-old midfielder would occur during the summer window, when he is out of contract in Scotland.
Ipswich aren’t the only ones interested in O’Donnell, with arch-rivals Norwich City and fellow Championship club Watford also interested in the midfield jewel, making it a competitive competition for his signature.
O’Donnell is a “real talent”
At the age of 18, O’Donnell is already drawing interest from Championship clubs, demonstrating his skill. O’Donnell is primarily a central midfielder, but his versatility is worth noting. The young Scotsman can play in the middle of midfield, on the left or right, and in attacking midfield, potentially giving McKenna the best option for years to come if Ipswich make a bid. O’Donnell has fans at Dundee United, too…
O’Donnell believes that a club like Ipswich would be a suitable next destination. McKenna’s side is on the rise, whether this season or in the foreseeable future, and playing on such a team will only help the teenager’s growth. First, Ipswich must defeat Norwich and Watford in the hunt to sign a future star to work under McKenna.
