Zach LaVine may somehow end up going from a bad basketball situation to an even worse one.
According to James Edwards III of The Athletic, the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons have discussed a possible LaVine deal. According to Edwards, the Bulls look to be “locked in” on a package that includes forward Bojan Bogdanovic and one of the Pistons’ “blue-chippers” for LaVine.
The small-market Pistons, who are a league-worst 5-39 this season, are possibly the least enticing destination in the NBA right now. However, they surprisingly want to be buyers ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline and surely have the budget space to absorb a large deal in a trade.
While the Bulls have appeared to be attempting to transfer the 28-year-old ex-All-Star LaVine for months, they are limited by the reality that the money owing to LaVine (who is in the second year of a five-year, $215.2 million max contract) is a major turn-off for teams.
We heard a severe appraisal of LaVine’s trade market few weeks ago, so Chicago may not have much choice than to cooperate with division foe Pistons.
