Kieran Trippier is preparing to lead Newcastle United out at Craven Cottage this weekend.
Kieran Trippier has trained as usual this week, despite Bayern Munich’s best efforts to lure him away from Newcastle United.
The German giants originally approached Newcastle about the England international last week, but the club made it clear that he was not for sale. Bayern put United’s commitment to the test by presenting an offer worth around £13 million on Tuesday, which was rejected.
Bayern have since ended their pursuit of the 33-year-old, as confirmed by sporting director Christoph Freund who said yesterday: “The Kieran Trippier issue is over. We only do what we are 100 per cent convinced of.”
According to NewcastleWorld, Trippier was open to the idea of joining England and former Tottenham Hotspur teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier in Germany, but had no intention of forcing a move.
Despite the commotion, the right-back’s whole attention has been on Newcastle’s FA Cup fourth round match at Fulham on Saturday night (kick-off 7pm). Trippier informed his Instagram fans on Wednesday that he was “putting the hard work in.” Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi acknowledged the tweet, responding with a fire and love heart emoji.
It has been a difficult week for United, with the likes of Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron attracting interest from other clubs, but Eddie Howe will hope it is all about the job when his side returns to play against Fulham and then Aston Villa three days later.
The early indication is there’ll be no such problem. Almiron too has taken to social media and simply posted the word “work”, a sign that he too isn’t impacted by speculation linking him with a switch to Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.
