Ismael Bennacer will return to Milan and undertake a series of medical tests in the following days after suffering a muscular injury at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 26-year-old midfielder played 80 minutes in Algeria’s tournament opener against Angola but missed the next two group matches against Burkina Faso and Mauritania due to adductor concerns. Algeria eventually placed last in their group, failing to advance beyond the first round.
Milan were already apprehensive when Bennacer flew out to AFCON. The midfielder had only recently recovered from a knee operation that had kept him out for more than 200 days, and he had made only two league starts before departing to join the Algeria squad.
According to Calciomercato.com, Bennacer will return to Milan within 48 hours of Algeria’s group stage exit at AFCON. He’ll swiftly undergo a battery of tests so the club can assess his adductor issue, which isn’t thought to be too serious.
Regardless, the 26-year-old will miss the Rossoneri’s upcoming Serie A match against Bologna on Saturday but may return for the following game against Frosinone on February 3.
