Southampton now want deal for £30m-rated European talent

Southampton is reportedly seeking to enhance their formidable attacking lineup by adding Argentine forward Matias Soulé, as per a Football League World report. The team is currently on an impressive unbeaten streak, holding the second position in the Championship after a 3-1 win against Swansea City. Manager Russell Martin aims to secure automatic promotion, and it is suggested that Juventus attacker Soulé could be the key.

Although Soulé has struggled for playing time at Juventus, his loan spell at Frosinone has been more successful. Despite initial predictions of relegation, Frosinone is comfortably midtable, with Soulé contributing nine goals in 19 matches. Southampton, despite being the second-highest scorers in the Championship, is reportedly interested in strengthening their attack amid rumors of Premier League interest in their 8-goal striker Che Adams.

Southampton has scored 53 goals in 28 Championship matches, with top scorer Adam Armstrong accounting for 14. Juventus values the 20-year-old Soulé at £30 million, and reports suggest that Southampton is willing to meet that valuation to secure his signature this season. Although Juventus is not in a hurry to sell the Argentina Under 20 international, Southampton might need to break their transfer record for the young forward.

This potential £30 million expenditure poses a significant financial commitment for Southampton, especially considering the tight race for promotion to the Premier League. The club would not want to risk being in the second tier next season with such a substantial signing and associated wages. Soulé, with only 34 appearances in Serie A and a promising return of 10 goals, represents a financial risk due to his youth and limited experience, particularly as he would be transitioning to a different country.
