Paul Merson says no club would pay £60m for 27-year-old Newcastle player

Paul Merson has responded to questions about Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton’s future.

The former Arsenal player and Sky Sports commentator has advised that Joelinton remain at Newcastle.

So, what did Paul Merson say about Newcastle United player Joelinton? Let’s have a look.

Paul Merson comments on Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton

Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton’s future is uncertain.

According to the Daily Mail, Joelinton might have played his last game for Newcastle.

The 27-year-old is currently injured and ready to have surgery. The Brazilian international is unlikely to play again this season.

According to the source, Joelinton wants to sign a new contract that will make him Newcastle’s highest-paid player. He only has 18 months left on his current contract.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle’s owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), are unwilling to fulfill Joelinton’s wage demands and may sell him at the end of the season if he does not adjust his stance.

Former Arsenal player and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has commented on Joelinton’s future, stating that he does not believe anyone will spend £60 million or £70 million for him.

Merson stated on Sky Sports, as reported by HITC Sport, “Would you go and pay £60 or £70 million for him?” Because he was a centre-forward who couldn’t strike a barn door without causing havoc.

“They moved him back into midfield; Eddie Howe saw it with his vision, and he’s been a revelation. He has. However, if you are the manager of another squad, he is not a natural midfield player. So, are you willing to spend £60 million?

My View: Joelinton should sign a new Newcastle contract

Joelinton and Newcastle United, in my opinion, should reach an agreement and continue to work together.

I believe the 27-year-old should stay at Newcastle. He has thrived at the club under manager Eddie Howe, who has transformed him by moving him into midfield after struggling as a striker under Steve Bruce.

Joelinton is now 27 and at the pinnacle of his game. Newcastle should seize this opportunity and work tirelessly to reach an agreement that benefits both parties.

The Brazilian international has made 152 Premier League matches in his career. Joelinton has scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in those games.
