Peterborough United’s director of football Barry Fry reckons their striker Jonson Clarke-Harris will not receive a better offer than the one made by Charlton Athletic.
The Addicks agreed to a cost of around £500,000 for the seasoned targetman, who is out of contract this summer.
However, Charlton has been unable to agree on personal terms with Clarke-Harris.
“Johnno has turned down two contract offers from Charlton,” Fry informed the Peterborough Telegraph. “It is up to him, of course, but he will not get a better offer or a better club, in my opinion.
“He may assume he will be financially better off if he leaves for free in the summer, but teams are struggling financially and with financial fair play regulations.
“Two Premier League clubs were charged yesterday, and I know of half a dozen Championship clubs that are trying to comply with the rules. “The money is no longer there.”
Charlton has made two bids for Cheltenham forward Will Goodwin, both of which have fallen short of their League One rival’s asking price. Oxford United are also interested in the 21-year-old.
