Charlton Athletic now chasing deal for 21-year-old striker

According to Gloucestershire Live, Charlton Athletic is one of several League One clubs interested in signing Cheltenham Town striker Will Goodwin.

The 21-year-old has six League One goals this season, including four in his previous six games.

He suffered a thigh injury in the first few minutes of the 1-0 victory over Carlisle United on December 23, putting him out for the next two games.

The 6ft 2in forward returned with a 45-minute outing at Northampton Town on New Year’s Day, but missed the home win over Portsmouth before coming off the bench against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Stoke City forward Will Goodwin set to join Cheltenham Town - Gloucestershire Live

Last January, Cheltenham signed Goodwin from Stoke City for an unknown amount on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

He had spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan with Torquay United, where he scored eight goals, including a 95th-minute equaliser against Derby County that earned the Gulls an FA Cup first round replay.

Goodwin began his career with Chester before joining Stoke in February 2021. He has also played on loan at Stalybridge Celtic and Hartlepool United.

Charlton recruited Cheltenham’s record EFL scorer Alfie May in the summer, and he has already scored 20 goals for the Addicks.
