Michael Beale rules out January exit for Sunderland man

Michael Beale has dismissed the possibility of a Sunderland player leaving during this transfer window, clarifying that it won’t be Jack Clarke. Sunderland is actively preparing for a busy transfer period, aiming to retain their key players and strengthen their position for a top-six finish.

The primary focus of transfer discussions at the Stadium of Light revolves around the future of 23-year-old Jack Clarke. Despite significant interest from Premier League clubs, manager Michael Beale is keen on retaining him. However, the club’s stance might be subject to change if a £20 million offer is presented.

In terms of incoming transfers, Sunderland is in search of a seasoned striker to address their goal-scoring challenges this season. They intend to complement the youthful talent acquired in the summer with an experienced forward. Bournemouth’s Kieffer Moore is among the potential targets, and he could be available on loan this month.

Despite facing struggles this season, Chelsea loanee Mason Burstow is confirmed to stay in the North East and will not be departing Sunderland.

Michael Beale confirms Mason Burstow will stay at Sunderland

Beale has effectively put an end to speculation that Sunderland may terminate Burstow’s loan.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, he said: “I believe Mason will stay here.

“So, you know, we’ve had those conversations and as it stands right now, Mason will be here until the end of the season.”

“He’s doing fine every day. He started seven games, I believe, under the former coach, and the squad performed well, albeit Mason never scored.”

Despite failing to score, Beale has lauded the 20-year-old’s all-round game, and he hopes that his faith will pay off in the second half of the season.

Is Beale right to keep Burstow?

Sunderland fans have grown increasingly unhappy with their strikers’ lack of performance this season.

Given that Naziriy Rusyn is the only forward to score – and it took him till New Year’s Day – fans are understandably upset.

It has been a challenging season for their youthful forwards in front of goal, but since Beale’s arrival, they have appeared more dangerous.

Rusyn is starting to resemble the player they signed from Zorya Luhansk in the summer, and Burstow will be eager to replicate that performance.

The Englishman enjoyed scoring goals in Chelsea’s juvenile groups, but he has struggled to adapt his clinical edge into senior games.

He would, however, love to end his stay in the North East on a high and there are plenty of chances for him to grab that opportunity between now and May.
