Breaking news: Burnley are now set to win the race to sign striker

Burnley are now set to win the race to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana with an agreement in place over a loan transfer up to this summer.

According to sources, Burnley and Chelsea have agreed on conditions for Fofana’s short-term transfer. He will spend the remainder of current season at Turf Moor after the Blues cut short his time at Union Berlin. In July, the Ivorian signed a season-long contract with the Bundesliga team.

Fofana appeared in 17 games for the German capital club, but only scored twice and contributed one assist. The 21-year-old also scored his sole Bundesliga goal in his last 12 league outings, a victory over FC Koln.

He hit home off the bench after starting in eight of a possible 12 outings.

Fofana appeared in 17 games for Union Berlin on loan from Chelsea, playing 973 minutes in total. He played 685 minutes in the Bundesliga despite missing three of Die Eisernen’s matches. Chelsea are now hoping that a loan move to Burnley would generate more for Fofana.

Burnley is presently 19th in the Premier League league after 20 games, two points behind bottom-place Sheffield United. The Clarets are also 19th in goals scored, with 20 thus far, ahead of the Blades in 20th with 15. Lyle Foster is Burnley’s leading scorer, with four goals from 11 games.
