Newcastle target ready to work with Eddie Howe with January deal to be completed

Despite persistent speculation that Kalvin Phillips will join Newcastle United in the January transfer window, the club has yet to complete their first acquisition.

There has been speculation that a deal may be completed, but Kalvin Phillips has yet to arrive at St James’ Park to join Newcastle United on loan from Manchester City.

As usual, money appears to be the issue. Manchester City’s loan fee is too high, and Newcastle may need to release some players before bringing in the 28-year-old.

However, a deal appears to be on the cards, with sources indicating that Phillips is keen in moving to St James’ Park.

And a new report from the Chronicle explains why the £42million midfielder is so interested.

According to the Chronicle, Phillips is interested in working with Eddie Howe as Newcastle continue to try to get him on loan from Manchester City.

They report that he prefers to stay in the Premier League rather than move abroad, and that Howe’s presence on Tyneside may affect where he ends up.
That is a testament to Howe’s performance as Newcastle United manager. He has significantly enhanced the club since his arrival in 2021 and has the potential to push it even further.

His most appealing quality is his coaching abilities. Many players have improved after working with him, and Phillips will be aware of this.

Despite Newcastle’s interest and Phillips’ willingness to transfer to the North East, a deal has yet to be completed. According to the Chronicle, Manchester City will not negotiate their loan fee, having requested that clubs pay about £7.5 million to borrow him for the remainder of the season.
