Newcastle have just made their move for ‘very complete’ £40m striker

Newcastle United have reportedly made an approach for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

According to The Telegraph, the Magpies have contacted the Cherries over their striker.

However, Newcastle have apparently been informed that Solanke would not be available for sale during the January transfer window.

According to reports, Magpies manager Eddie Howe is hoping to sign a new centre-forward this month.

He remains a big fan of Solanke, whom he signed for Bournemouth with a whopping £19 million in 2019.
The 27-year-old has been in excellent form this season, attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

Solanke has 13 goals this season, with 12 of them coming in the Premier League, adding one assist.

Understandably, Andoni Iraola is allegedly unwilling to allow any of his strikers leave this month.

Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo are currently competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, therefore their attacking ranks have already been decimated.

Kieffer Moore, a Wales international, is the only other fit striker at the Vitality Stadium right now.

Despite interest from other Championship teams, Iraola is also unwilling to let him go.

Newcastle and other suitors unlikely to get Dominic Solanke deal over the line in January

Solanke is a fantastic player who is currently in excellent form, so it’s easy to see why Newcastle have expressed interest in him.

However, they will struggle to finalize a deal for the’very complete’ £40 million striker in January for a variety of reasons.

Solanke only signed a new contract in September, which lasts until the summer of 2027. The Cherries now have a good hand, and the player does not appear to be in a hurry to depart.

Furthermore, with two Bournemouth attacking players currently absent for the Africa Cup of Nations, there is no better moment for them to move another attacking player, let alone the most prolific at the club.

It’ll be surprising if Newcastle – or indeed any other club – can make any more progress on the Solanke front in the coming weeks.
