‘Done’ – Championship winger drops transfer bombshell ahead of Newcastle United move

Newcastle United transfers: One Magpies winger believes his time at St James’ Park has come to an end.

Ryan Fraser believes that his Newcastle United career has come to an end. Fraser is presently on loan at Championship club Southampton, having spent the second half of last season practicing away from Newcastle’s first team under Eddie Howe’s directives.

Fraser has not played for Newcastle since October 2022, and he joined the Saints on loan in the summer as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Fraser has become a crucial member of Russell Martin’s team at St Mary’s, and he told the Daily Echo that he does not expect to be given another chance to impress on Tyneside.

Fraser remarked, “I think my time at Newcastle is up. I don’t believe you should be loaned out if you have the option of returning. As we all know, the second half of last season was particularly difficult.

“I came here to aid the squad in whatever way I could. That has involved coming off the bench and making a difference in games. It feels great to support the squad.”

Fraser scored twice and assisted once as the Saints thrashed Walsall in the FA Cup.

Southampton are presently third in the Championship, only three points off the automatic promotion places, as they look to bounce back swiftly after being relegated from the top tier under former Norwich City defender Martin.

Martin, who went to the south coast from Swansea City in the summer, recently discussed the possibility of turning Fraser’s loan spell into a permanent one; however, he conceded that, while both the club and the player want to make it permanent, it may not be possible this month.

“I don’t know, it’s out of my remit really.” Martin said. “Would I like to make it permanent? Yes. The chance of that happening I think, because of the finances involved, the timing and his situation, is low.

“I don’t know if it will be feasible right now but he just needs to keep doing what he is doing, he is in a really good place and enjoying it. We will see but I am pretty sure he would love to stay here beyond this season.”
