Sixers Land Former All-Star in Latest NBA Mock Trade

Approaching the NBA trade deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers have roughly a month to finalize roster improvements ahead of the playoff push. A recent speculative trade scenario involves bolstering Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey by adding a former All-Star.

Bleacher Report compiled trades involving top players swirling in rumors. One proposal has Dejounte Murray moving to Philly in exchange for Robert Covington, Jaden Springer, Danuel House, and a pair of first-round picks. Since the James Harden trade, the Sixers have been linked to various players, including OG Anunoby, who was recently traded to the New York Knicks.

Recent reports suggest the Sixers have shown interest in Murray, although he might not be their primary target. Although surrendering two first-round picks is challenging, this trade could still be deemed favorable for the Sixers. Springer lacks a clear path to consistent playing time, and the wing position is heavily stocked. Moving Covington also creates opportunities for Marcus Morris, who has excelled recently.

Murray has showcased his effectiveness both on and off the ball alongside Trae Young. In 35 games this season, he’s averaging 20.9 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 5.0 APG, shooting a solid 38% from beyond the arc on significant attempts. As a two-way player, Murray aligns with the type of player the Sixers aim to surround Embiid and Maxey with. However, one potential deterrent for Daryl Morey in pursuing this move could be Murray’s contract.

He’s set to begin a four-year, $114 million deal next season. Given the team’s anticipated cap space this summer, they might hesitate to acquire a player who could impact their future financial flexibility. The Sixers will closely observe Murray this week as they prepare to face the Hawks on Wednesday.
