Fabrizio Romano confirms club are open to accepting a ‘strong move’ for Ipswich Town target

Just over a week ago, the Championship’s best clubs were made aware of a fantastic transfer chance. Liverpool cut short Fabio Carvalho’s season-long loan at RB Leipzig. The Reds did so due to Carvalho’s limited playing time in Germany.

Liverpool’s objective when terminating the loan was always to sanction a second stay away. The club’s first consideration when deciding where to send the player is the certainty of regular minutes.

As a result, interest from Premier League clubs like Wolves and Fulham was always likely to be fruitless.

While Carvalho is a talented player in his own right, it would be impossible for a top-tier club to guarantee that Liverpool Carvalho will start every week.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed multiple promotion-chasing Championship sides had asked to take Carvalho on loan.

One or more reports have attributed interest to Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich, Southampton, and Hull.

According to Sky Sports, one squad in particular has pulled away from the group after making a’strong move’.

According to Sky Sports, Liam Rosenior’s Hull City are the clear favourites for the livewire forward.

Hull have evidently guaranteed Liverpool that Carvalho will have a regular starting role, and the player is dubbed ‘excited about helping Hull cement a play-off place and strive for promotion from the Championship’.

Hull are presently seventh in the table, just one point behind Sunderland in the final play-off spot.

Sky has acknowledged Carvalho’s transfer to Hull, although it is not yet official. However, Hull are confident that Carvalho will come to east Yorkshire and may even be registered in time to play against Norwich on Friday night.

Carvalho’s final season in the Championship was a huge success. Indeed, the attacker was nominated to the Championship team of the season for 2021/22, after scoring 10 goals and assisting eight times in 36 games for Fulham, who dominated the division.

David Ornstein of The Athletic later verified that Carvalho will join Hull, barring any last-minute difficulties.

Why transfer rivals ran aground

Sky also explained why some of the contenders for Carvalho appear to have fallen short.

Firstly, Leicester had great hopes of signing the No. 10, but they would need to sell a player to make way.

Southampton, meanwhile, has been unable to provide the game-time guarantees that Liverpool sought.

Sky finished. Stuttgart and Sevilla had also expressed interest, but Carvalho now appears set to join Hull.

Any loan deal is unlikely to include a buy-option. Liverpool believes Carvalho can make an impact at Anfield in the coming years.
