Burnley recall 15-goal striker and three other players from loan clubs

Burnley has recalled striker Michael Mellon from his season-long loan at Morecambe.

The 20-year-old, the son of former Claret Micky, scored 15 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions during the first half of the season, 13 of which came in League Two.

In October, the Scotland Under-21 international scored his first senior hat-trick against AFC Wimbledon, defeating them 4-1.
According to The Athletic, Mellon might be sent out on loan again, but this time further up the food chain, with clubs in League One and the SPL interested.

Benn Ward has also been returned after his injury-plagued tenure with Swindon Town, where he appeared in just five games.

Sam Waller and Marcel Lewis have also returned to Burnley after their loan spells with Hyde United and Dundee ended.

It comes after Owen Dodgson and Dara Costelloe were both returned to Gawthorpe earlier this month.

Costelloe was sent straight to Dundee after spending the first half of the season with St Johnstone, and Dodgson returned from League One club Barnsley.

Last week, Vincent Kompany indicated that the plan for Dodgson is to secure another loan spell.

“Owen will go back on loan and play,” that’s what he stated.

Dodgson appeared in 15 games for Barnsley, scoring on his debut against Grimsby Town in the EFL Trophy.

It comes after the left-back spent last season on loan at Rochdale in League Two, making 18 appearances.

Costelloe made 12 appearances for St Johnstone and scored once.
