Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with PSG at the start of the transfer window
Eddie Howe has made it clear that he wants to keep Bruno Guimaraes in the January transfer window, despite new reports connecting him to Paris St-Germain.
After a quiet start to the window for Howe and rising indications of balancing to comply with FFP requirements, supporters are concerned about the possibility of a player being sold, as Allan Saint-Maximin was last summer to Al-Ahli. But, with Howe poised for a tough window, he was steadfast when pressed about Bruno’s departure.
Howe was quoted as saying: “When you are talking about your best players you want to keep them at the football club as long as possible so that is certainly our aim.”
While Newcastle has not publicly revealed Bruno’s £100 million release clause, there is a feeling behind the scenes that clubs can’t deny some players the option to go if they have certain career goals.
“I’m not going to confirm whether there is or isn’t a release clause in Bruno’s or any other of our players’ contracts,” stated sporting director Dan Ashworth earlier this year. They’re all private and private.
“I can talk to you about the principles of release clauses. You can have a situation where a player may have a dream country or club that they want to play for and you can make it specific to them; (so) that it can sit outside of your competitors in the Premier League.
“Sometimes players are happy to sign a long-term contract but, if family situations change, they may want to experience something different. It’s not always just about the players wanting an exit.”
