Ipswich Town now set to complete deal for talented 21-year-old

Jeremy Sarmiento is set to join Ipswich Town on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion after being recalled early from West Brom, according to Maria Jose Flores.

The Ecuadorian journalist stated via X [2 January] that the Brighton winger is poised to join Championship side Ipswich on a six-month loan after being returned early from his loan with the Baggies due to a lack of game time.

Sarmiento’s short stint at Portman Road could be extended for another season if the Tractor Boys fulfill their aim of promotion to the Premier League, but he will return to the Amex otherwise.

Missed opportunity for Baggies

There is little doubt that the 21-year-old has established himself in English football’s second division. However, only seven of his 20 league games under Carlos Corberan have been from the start, with Brighton hoping for more minutes on the pitch for their upcoming talent.

With Ipswich slipping slightly after a blistering start to the season, the margin between them in the automatic promotion spots and the playoff spots has shrunk to just three points.

They will be hoping that Sarmiento can provide a spark in the Ipswich attack, which has struggled for goals in recent games. Ipswich have scored three goals in their past five games and could benefit from the addition of a new winger to their lineup.

According to the reaction to the Ecuardian’s loan arrangement being terminated, he will be missed at The Hawthorns, where he has scored two goals in the Championship.

However, with Corberan preferring Jed Wallace and Grady Diangana, Brighton appear to have lost all patience with the lack of playing time and have elected to recall him, reserving every right to do so.
