Joel Piroe gives response when asked if Leeds United can catch Ipswich Town

Leeds United are eight points behind Ipswich Town in the fight for automatic promotion, having dropped to fourth after losing to Preston, but Joel Piroe is optimistic that the Whites can catch Ipswich.

Leeds has dropped out of contention for a top-two finish with one win and four points in the last four games. Leeds have lost to Sunderland and Preston despite beating Ipswich 4-0.

Next up is a tough away game against West Bromwich Albion. In the rematch, Leeds only achieved a 1-1 draw against Carlos Corberan’s side, with Luke Ayling heading home an equalizer.

Leeds battled against Corberan’s team at Elland Road, and while the game occurred during a period of uncertainty and scandal at Leeds, it was still a difficult encounter. Leeds must win.

Piroe spoke to ESPN in the Netherlands ahead of the game, and the 24-year-old was asked if he thought Leeds could still catch Ipswich in the race for second place. Leeds remain optimistic, according to him.

“Although there is quite a gap between us and Ipswich Town, we are still very confident. Such a gap can quickly

disappear, so we know that everything is still possible. Our goal is to be promoted immediately.”

Piroe has been fantastic for Leeds, but if the Whites are to catch Ipswich, the Dutchman needs to get more involved in games. Jon Newsome claims he is too “in and out” of games.

Leeds could welcome back Sam Byram, who was on the bench at Preston, ahead of the trip to West Brom. Farke stated that he could play, citing Byram as the club’s “most consistent” this season.
