Burnley man reveals nightmare start at club

Burnley’s Dara Costelloe has opened up on the nightmare start he endured before his loan spell north of the border even got underway.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League, where he has made 12 appearances and scored one.

While Costelloe is loving his football in Scotland, he has acknowledged that it did not begin well.

“I like it up here,” Costelloe said, according to the Dundee Courier. “It’s fine, and I get along well with the lads.”

“It’s certainly different from my first night in Scotland, when I had to sleep in my car!”

“Because I’d agreed to sign, I drove up from Burnley late in the day and arrived in Perth after midnight.”

“I was booked into a hotel, and they said there would be someone to contact after hours to check in.”

“However, when I arrived, I knocked on the door and called the number I was given, but I couldn’t reach anyone.” I also tapped on various windows in the hopes that someone would hear me, but no one got up.

“I looked for other hotels but none were available, so I had to give up and sleep in my car.”

“I had all my belongings in the back with me because I’m up here for a year, so it was jam-packed and there wasn’t much room.”

“Even though it was summer, it got pretty cold at night, and the next day my back was in shambles!”

“Eventually someone appeared at the hotel and was able to let me in, so I got an hour’s kip before coming in for my first session.”

following having reservations about moving to St Johnstone following his nightmarish first night, Costelloe concedes that his experience has since been lot more pleasant.

“It wasn’t the best of starts, and I was wondering what I had done.” “Perhaps it was a test to see if I could stick it out,” the Irishman remarked.

“But everything has been great since then, and I’ve really enjoyed it.” I’ve met some nice friends here, and the club has a great sense of community.

“All the lads get on great and it’s a good place to be.”
