Stuart Pearce enthusiastically praised Chris Wood following his three-goal performance that secured Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The Reds made a comeback to secure a crucial win, putting an end to their streak of games without a victory.
Wood has been in the starting lineup for both matches under Nuno Espirito Santo’s management since he took over from Steve Cooper at Forest. His tally stands at four goals across these two games, showcasing a remarkable transformation in his performance.
Having joined Forest almost a year ago from Newcastle, Wood made a striking return to St James’ Park, playing a pivotal role in Espirito Santo’s significant win.
Pearce raves about Wood after Forest beat Newcastle
The 32-year-old forward has faced scrutiny for his performances in certain matches, which intensified after the club made a somewhat peculiar decision to spend £15 million on acquiring his services.
However, despite this criticism, Wood doesn’t come across as a negative personality. He typically avoids social media and demonstrates professionalism both on the field and during training sessions. Steve Cooper, during his time at Forest, commended Wood for his conduct and dedication.
Pearce was impressed with Forest striker Wood and told Amazon Prime: “I’ve got to say, very very clinical. I mean the first one is a tap-in but the second two are quality. They were just finishing off things that they were creating in the first half. In this one (the second one), the goalkeeper gave his wicket away there for me but he looked very very composed.”

A striker brimming with confidence poses a significant threat in any league. Wood’s aim now is to maintain consistent appearances for Forest, sustain fitness, and aim for an even higher goal tally.
Wood executed his three goals admirably. As Pearce suggests, while the first goal seemed straightforward, the following two demanded a display of composure from him.
Newcastle found themselves outmatched and outmaneuvered by Forest, allowing Wood to exploit their rare lapses in concentration.
Having previously demonstrated his goal-scoring ability in the Premier League, Wood is now showcasing his finest form for Forest, much to the delight of the club’s supporters.
