‘You can be sure’: David Prutton makes prediction about Michael Beale’s first game as Sunderland manager

David Prutton has predicted Michael Beale’s first game as Sunderland manager.

Michael Beale is already under a lot of pressure, despite only being named as the Black Cats’ new head coach a few days ago.

Parting ways with Tony Mowbray was difficult for supporters, but welcoming the 43-year-old in his place was not.

Beale has already enraged Rangers supporters with his statements following his appointment, and he will need to get back to winning ways quickly if he wants to impress his new ‘family’.

Starting his term against Coventry City is difficult enough, with Sunderland having failed to win any of their previous seven matches. However, the Sky Blues are now in 15th place, and a win may see the hosts return to the play-offs.

Sunderland will not begin their new era with a bang, according to former player David Prutton, who predicts a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.

“Michael Beale takes charge of his first Sunderland game, and already has a battle on his hands to win over a potentially sceptical home support,” Prutton wrote for Sky Sports. Fans will, however, continue to rally behind their club at the Stadium of Light.

“Coventry took a great point away from Leeds last weekend, especially after falling behind, and they always fancy themselves against the league’s big hitters.” I believe they will receive another point to take home for Christmas.”

Coventry City’s place in the Championship table isn’t ideal, but their form has improved significantly in recent weeks.

Mark Robins’ team has won three of their previous six games and has only lost one in seven, while also keeping three clean sheets.

What does Michael Beale need to do to win Sunderland over?

Sunderland have the home advantage, but I suspect the mood will be a little more tense than usual when a new manager takes over.

Michael Beale needs a good run over the holidays, and starting with a loss or even a draw this weekend is a major issue.

While the 43-year-old will be focused on making the play-offs this season, his reputation may also be determined by the Wear-Tyne derby next month.

Beale lost four of the six Old Firm derbies during his tenure at Rangers, but there is no disputing that fans would be far more supportive of his appointment if he could get one over on Newcastle. Though that may be a much more difficult task than seeing Rangers defeat Celtic.
