Journalist finally has some good news for Newcastle United

Newcastle United have been boosted in their pursuit of Manchester City defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips thanks to his stance

Newcastle United have received a boost in their pursuit of Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, who ‘would want to stay in the Premier League,’ according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has told GIVEMESPORT when Magpies boss Eddie Howe will need to make his move to bring him to St James’ Park.

The Tyneside giants are looking for new options in the middle of the park after Sandro Tonali was granted a lengthy ban for violating gambling regulations, which will see him miss the rest of the season and the first few weeks of the 2024/25 season.

Although Lewis Miley made history by being Newcastle’s youngest Premier League goalscorer against 10-man Fulham last weekend, Howe will have the option to bring in reinforcements next month as he attempts to recoup from the disappointment of being knocked out of the Champions League.

Serie A title-chasers aim to beat Newcastle to Phillips

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus has attempted to steal a march on Newcastle by opening talks with Manchester City over a loan deal that includes an option to make Phillips’ switch permanent, but the reigning Premier League champions are keen for the long-term agreement to become mandatory.

In a potential setback for Howe, the Italian journalist claims the defensive midfielder, who has only played 89 minutes of Premier League action this season, is open to competing for the Serie A title at the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus made their offer after Newcastle had already initiated talks to take Phillips on loan, with a possible transfer to Tyneside thought to include an option to buy, although Manchester City would prefer to cash in after he failed to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Respected writer Ben Jacobs recently told GIVEMESPORT that the England international will only consider joining the Magpies if he is guaranteed game time as he seeks a place in his country’s Euro 2024 squad.

Aston Villa, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs who have made questions about Phillips ahead of the winter transfer market starting in the coming weeks.

Despite being deprived of regular action at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City vetoed a loan move to Everton over the summer, stating that they would only allow the move if a £7.5 million fee was offered.

Although Guardiola apologized to Phillips for not giving him a Premier League start this season, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager admitted that breaking into the first XI will be difficult for Phillips.

Kalvin Phillips could exit Manchester City after just one season

Dean Jones update – Kalvin Phillips

In a plus for Newcastle, Jones knows Phillips would prefer to stay in the Premier League rather than pursue a new challenge abroad if his Manchester City career ends next month.

The respected journalist feels the Magpies must make a bid for the 28-year-old, who joined the Citizens in a £45 million transfer from childhood club Leeds United less than 18 months ago, soon if they are to win the race for his signature.

When asked if Manchester City would allow Phillips to join Juventus on loan before potentially turning it into a long-term deal, Jones told GIVEMESPORT:

“While the loan side might be possible, I’m not sure the permanent side would.” When top sides like Newcastle, West Ham, and possibly even Tottenham are interested in Kalvin Phillips, that is unlikely to be the case in the Premier League.

“From what I’ve heard, Kalvin Phillips would prefer to stay in the Premier League if at all possible.” But, clearly, Juventus is a strong draw. There aren’t many English players who have gone on to play in Serie A for Juventus, especially in a season when they’re chasing the Scudetto.

“It’s something for him to seriously consider but, if Newcastle want to get him, they are going to have to make their move pretty soon.”
